ANDAZ MUNICH
CRITIQUE MY STAY RATING: 9/10
AVG. NIGHTLY RATE: $350
The Andaz Munich is a trendy luxury hotel that features modern design. Between the hotel’s excellent amenities, beautiful aesthetic, and proximity to some of Munich’s most well-known sites, we really loved our stay at this Hyatt brand property.
LOCATION
8/10
Munich is a city that is easily explored on foot. However, it is worth noting that the Schwabinger Tor neighborhood, where the Andaz Hotel is situated, is slightly removed from the main tourist area of the city, which may be a good thing. Once Munich's bohemian quarter, it has undergone gentrification in recent years. It is home to notable parks like the English Garden as well as major universities and a number of restaurants and cafes. It is about a 45 minute walk to Munich’s downtown area where you’ll find the Munich Residenz and the Pinakothek museums, but the walk down Leopoldstrasse is a very pretty one. The Munich International Airport is about a 25 minute drive from the hotel.
AMENITIES
9.5/10
GYM - 9/10
The gym at Andaz Munich is a fully equipped fitness facility with high end and new cardio machines, weight-training equipment, and free weights. Its got a nice amount of natural light and is a good size. Amenities such as towels and water stations are provided.
SPA - 10/10
Although we didn't go for any spa treatments, the spa area at the hotel was incredible. The expansive 2,000-square-meter spa facility included an excellent sauna and steam room, as well as nice shower and locker facilities. Truly one of the most peaceful, serene spa facilities we have ever seen.
POOL - 10/10
The picture above doesn’t even do the pool justice. Located on the fifth floor, the magnificent indoor swimming pool is surrounded by an outdoor terrace adorned with daybeds, sunbeds, and chairs. The views are spectacular, the environment is incredibly designed, and it is the perfect place to spend a morning or an afternoon.
OTHER
The Andaz Munich has a variety of additional amenities including room service, on-site restaurant, pet-friendly policies, and meeting facilities. Wifi is excellent and the rooftop bar is something that should definitely be visited. Cafe M, located on the ground floor, was a great place to grab coffee and lunch and we visited it daily.
ROOM
9.5/10
We booked a standard room and used one of Hyatt’s suite upgrade awards to upgrade into a Junior Suite. But the hotel went one step further - upon arrival we were upgraded to an Andaz Suite. The suite featured a cozy living room with a desk, an L-shaped couch, and a small dining table for two. The bedroom had a luxurious king-sized bed and a large flat screen TV in front of it along with a small bench in front of the window that offered city views. The bathroom also had a city view that was really nice to look at from the large bathtub. In addition, there was a walk in shower and dual sinks. Some awesome additional amenities included a second bathroom, a walk-in closet and a complimentary mini-bar that was restocked everyday with potato chips, water, and upscale soft drinks - a really nice feature. An Illy espresso machine with capsules was also provided.
BREAKFAST
9/10
Breakfast was really excellent. It was served at The Lonely Broccoli & Terrace on the ground floor and featured a pretty large buffet with everything from good quality fresh fruit to tasty cold meats and cheeses, to hot items, making sure to feature some German specialties throughout. In additoon to the buffet, an à la carte menu offered made-to-order dishes like eggs, pancakes, waffles, and French Toast. We really appreciated the high quality ingredients and produce and the inclusion of local dishes and specialties which made this a lot more than the typical hotel breakfast spread.

VERDICT
One week was not enough at the Andaz Munich. The hotel really knows how to deliver a luxury experience with outstanding service, incredible amenities, and great dining options. The location may not be perfect, but if you are ok with short taxi or uber rides or long walks, you’ll be pampered and well-taken care of at the hotel itself.
